A Study on Behavioral Factors for the Safe-driving of the Owner-Drivers among the Industrial Laborers in Gyeonggi Area

Abstract
This study is to evaluate a relationship between behavioral factors of safe-driving of the owner-drivers among the industrial laborers in Gyeonggiarea and the occurrence of the traffic accidents, and provide basic information that describes various factors to reduce the traffic accidents. The major tool of this study was the Korean Self-Analysis Driver Questionnaire. This questionnaire contains categories which measure each driver¡¯s opinions and attitudes on his or her own driving¡¯ driving courtesy, emotion control, observance of traffic law, speed, vehicle condition, drug taking, high-risk behavior, and human initated factor. To analyze the data, the total 263 drivers from the industrial laborers in Gyeonggi area were investigated from September 1, 2002 to October 30, 2002. The analysis of the data based on the questionnaire used descriptive statistics with SPSS program. The results were the followings : l. Age Groups: The age group between 30 and 34 had the highest number of drivers, 67 drivers, which contains 25.5£¥ of the total. The group between 20 and 24 had the lowest numbers, 12 drivers. and 4.6% of the total. 2. Driving Experiences¡¯ The most drivers analyzed. 97 drivers(36.9£¥), had the driving experince period between 5 and9 years. The second most drivers, 81 drivers(30.8%) had the driving experience period between 10 and 14 years. 3. Driving Courtesy and Emotional Control: In the desirable level of yielding toother cars, the most drivers(194 drivers, 73.8£¥) was included in the category of .
